05:30 pm Its been awhile since I really posted, so here goes.
My birthday was awesome. I got presents and chocolate and cake and well wishes from people at work. Kelly and I ate out at Chili's with Heather and Sean, Brooke and Adam, and Chris. It was tons of fun. Chris ordered me an Appletini. Heather and Brooke made me an AWESOME looking red velvet cake in the shape of a black corset. Too too cool. I'd post pics, but there seems to be an issue with our photo gallery. Brooke of course got me back for her Bday and made me wear a flshing its my Bday pin, a tiara, a lei AND a pink boa, and carry a feathered star shape frou-frou wand to boot. Afterwards Kelly had to go back to work :( but the rest of us went back to my place and we watched Dark City. Very cool. It's been awhile since I had seen it and Brooke actually never had.
Also this past weekend was my Arts in the Hearts performance. It went great. Kelly couldn't go unfortunately as he was working, but we had a great crowd. Heather and Chris went. It was Heather's first time seeing an all out bellydance show and she seemed to like it, so that was cool. I always love ensnaring new people, err I mean exposing them to the dance. It was alot of work, but it all seemed to turn out well. I got a good many new dancers (even some experienced ones to my Tribal class) out of it. So, thats always cool. I lent lots of people dance stuff, so I'm HOPING to be able to get it all back.
Sunday Kelly got me an AWESOME ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery. It was called cookie dough delirium. Yumminess. He also got me a PS2 for my Bday complete with a cool looking multiplayer RPG game. Chris got me Kingdom Hearts. I need to get busy on finishing up Tales of Symphonia so I can start in on my PS2 games. Heather and Brookie got me an awesome plaid halter style dress. Very cute.
I went to my yearly doc's visit this past Tuesday. She told me I was 9lbs heavier than last time, had elevated blood pressure (158/90) and that she was retiring. Yeah fun. She decided to switch my birth control pills to ones with a lower level of estrogen to see if that helps my blood pressure. When she said that the first thing that ran through my head honestly was oooh, maybe I'll get pregnant. And then almost instantly I chastised myself. I want to have a child really badly at some point, hopefully before I get too much older and start falling into the high risk pregnancy categories, but I want to plan for it. I don't want it to be some mistake I am unprepared for (healthwise, emotionally, or financially). Besdies there are too many birth defects linked with birth control pill usage in the first few months. At the same time I wonder what it would've been like if I hadn't been so super careful to not get pregnant when I first started having sex. Maybe I'd have a little daughter I could be teaching bellydance stuff right now. Course, knowing my luck, my child will be an uptight little prep who prefers cheerleading and country music to bellydancing or something :D I know part of the reason the thought ran across my mind was because I had just ended my period and I've started to notice I get more "baby fever" when its that time of the month. (I swear I blame my mother, when I first got my period and complained about all the usual aches and pains of it, her response was that it was the price women pay for the privilage of having children. Its a notion I had in my head for the longest time and an idea I hope to never pass down to any children I may have. Nothing is guaranteed in life). Another reason the idea flitted through my brain is probably because of a girl who's in my beginning class. She's got the cutest little 5 yr old daughter that dances with us. She claims she was on birth control pills and using a condom when she got pregnant. Anywho, the doc said that I SHOULDN'T have any problems with the new pills and to give them a few months for my body to adjust. So, great, if I do have any issues, I get to see a totally new doc I haven't picked yet. Yay.
Other than the baby stuff, the doctor's visit made me think about getting back into an actively healthy lifestyle. I downloaded a very cool program called DietPower from Download.com Its basically a fancy version of what I did to lose the 20 lbs I lost a few years ago. It counts calories, keeps track of the foods you eat, nutrients, exercises you do, your weight, all sorts of stuff. Its got a database or you can add your own foods and exercises. It'll show you your data in charts, pie graphs, tables, whatever you want. I'm loving it.
Also, I watched an AWESOME movie, Bowling for Columbie. Highly recommended. More of a commentary than a documentary, but it still makes some greaat points and makes you think. I'm thinking about reading the book, but first I bought a book that was mentioned in it that I plan on starting to read soon. Its called Culture of Fear and talks about the effects on America of all the sensationalism and fear inducing media we're exposed to. I have this notion in my head of getting into reading sociology books like this and maybe going back to school for it. It'd make a great second career, part time job, sometime money maker when I retire. I was almost a sociology major.
I'm currently reading Beyond the Sea of Ice by William Sarabande that Kelly got me for my Bday too. So far, I'm liking it alot. I'm a few chapters into it, so we'll see. I'm just so happy to be done with costume sewing stuff for awhile so I can lose myself in a book again ;) Current Mood: indescribable Current Music: Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes

Happy Bday! Why do I always think its in October? I guess because that's the most Mari time of the year. :) Coldstone is the best... I'm so jealous about the cake!
The thing about the baby fever, I feel ya, sister. And everytime I start to feel that way I want to slap myself because I *know* that it isn't the right time, but still...
Let me know about that book if you read it. I've been thinking about it getting it too after watching the movie.
